The Pharisees knew they were going to draw him into a situation where they had the next comment already ready. This question was sincere and Jesus be holding him, loved him. To me, this is pretty much all of us in the church. We're doing great work. But either way, whether you do an over behavior because you're too confident or you do the underbehavior because you're not confident enough, either one of those could keep you from God.
