What Happens Outside the Cave?

There's inside the cave, and there's outside cave. The first thing that they see out there is ponds and bodies of water. And then after their eyes get accustomed to looking at these reflections that, you know, they're looking at the reflections cast by the sun. Once their eyes getting accustomed to the sun, then they can look at the objects themselves. And then they manage to look up at the star as and and finally, they can see the sun itself. So there's a progression of what goes on outside the cave in the story. Big question is, what does that correspond to in the education story?
