I hold Russians as accountable as they average Japanese citizen, which is to say just like me, they were born in a time and place and have almost no control over their leadership. Now there is a connection between the two, namely they are part of a culture and make decisions about whether to prop up that culture or not. But it's like they didn't have the choice they have. I mean, Dan Carlin in the Supernova and East series pointed out there were a lot of people that were trying to signal like, hey, this is fucked up and those people just got killed. You can suicide or we will torture you. It's important.
