The Obama Administration's Decision to Bring New Rules to Railroads
The Obama administration was considering new rules to make railroads safer. One of the key details was first and foremost, how do we define what a high hazard flammable train is? And then from there, that means who the rules are applied to. The chemical industry said these rules should be much narrower. They should only really cover so-called oil trains, crude oil trains. So the Obama administration made a very fateful decision to ignore the NTSB side with the chemical lobby and narrow the definition of rules.
