How to Use MLS to Solve a Linear Problem

MLS uses a binary tree to solve exactly that problem. A binary tree is essentially a mechanism that converts a linear problem into a logarithmic one. The recommendation is to have unique key material per device and not come from one device to another for obvious reasons. But it's not prohibitive against that scenario if you had some well-motivated scenario.
