McLean: What we're teaching our kids is conditional love. She says that's what holds the power to break through the mindset because the mindset is so seductive. One of the things McLean says is when kids contribute to the household by pitching in with food preparation, it's almost like they're getting their family membership card. There's a tremendous feeling of belonging to the family by participating in its care and keeping.
