How to Freestyle a Song
A song is so wonderful if it sounds as though the singer and the audience are all discovering it together. When we cut and paste form the first verses, let's say is eight bars and has particular cadence, that's normal. That's a normal form. But when you're freestyling a song, you can't really remember exactly what you did in the first verse and you try to approximate it but you're a new person and you're discovering a new thing. And so it is unfolding in a way that songs normally don't unfold - I find it very effective.
