The Importance of Belief in God
In the context of worry, this is Curran's wager. We have four cells. There is a God, there is no God, and down the side we have, do I believe in God or do I not believe in God? And what was Pascal's final determination? Yeah, that probabilistically it is more advantageous to believe in God because if you believe in God and God's not there, okay, it's not a huge consequence. But if you fail to believe ingod and God is there, oh, that's a bad thing. So ultimately the best outcome for him was to believe inGod probabilistically. That was his main point.
