The Gospel Gives Us New Affections Instead of for Sin

The Bible calls this idolatry, loving God's stuff instead of loving God. The gospel shows us our need by first showing us that we are sinners in need of the gospel. Jesus came to help the weak, the sinful, the prideful, and the distracted. Seeing the beauty of Jesus in the gospel itself is what stirs our hearts for Jesus. His salvation fuels our affection then our affection moves into motivating new habits.
