The History of Asbestos

In 1898, the lady inspector of factories in Great Britain noted that disease seemed to be higher among asbestos textile workers. A physician named Dr. Montague Murray treated a person who had an unusual fibrosis of the lungs. He didn't report on the case until seven years later during a meeting on compensation for industrial diseases. The committee upon hearing this story did not recommend compensation because they couldn't rule out tuberculosis,. In 1972, 775,000 tons of asbestos were produced in the US alone.
