The heroine of Ulysses, Molly Bloom, is all through that book, although she's never out of bed. When we get to Finnegan's wake, the heroine running and flowing throughout that book is Analivia Plurabel, a great female power. The impregnation of his soul by the dove the Holy Spirit symbolized in this girl who is the counterpart of Dante's Beatrice. This vision becomes the inspiration of Joyce's life and of all his heroines. Here is an actual, physical, earthly, and spiritual experience understood in terms of a mythological experience.
