Jane Street started using your camel 18 years ago. OCaml has a habit of this, which is language features tend to arrive depending on what perspective you have late or early. It takes such an incredibly long period of time for language features to get popular that you can still be somewhere in the middle and seem both cutting edge and incredibly stodgy at the same time.
