The American Plan for a Linear Defense
Planners were so almost overrode by the logistical challenge that they had in front of them. They worked everything out and then somehow forgot that my new to detail of what happens when they hit the shore. When you're coming up against a linear defense as powerful as this there isn't any room to maneuver left and right flanking really. Somebody's got to go in there and take a hammering initially to create maneuver space but that is not actually identified as anybody's objectives in the american plan.
