The Galileo Spacecraft and the Challenger Disaster

The trip takes a long time because you have a smaller rocket. Originally, say the Galileo spacecraft was supposed to launch on the space shuttle and they were going to have this really fantastic upper stage for Jupiter. And so in order to still complete the mission, they figured out a new kind of flight which was that they make flybys of various places in the solar system. It would take you longer, but you could do this with less energy.
