Introduction

This month we're going to hear friends by grace payley, which was published in the new yorker in june of 19 79. The story involves three friends who have gone to visit a fourth friend, mamed slina, who is dying. I their women who became friends because they were mothers together. And it is only now that i myself have made friends that because we raised our children together, that i understand the depth of that bond and just how devastating it will be when one day we friends will have to say good bye.
