Neil Gaiman was working as a journalist in the 80s. He wrote a book on Duran Duran. And then he ended his journalism career in 1987. Around that time is when he is approached by Karen Berger at DC, who's like, hey, we got this character from the 70s called the Sandman. It's not the 70s, it's like the 40s. That's kind of what makes this to bear.
