We allow ourselves to root for murderers, bank robbers and torturers when we see them on the screen so long as it's been clear that they're our hero or our anti-hero. We forgive all sorts of behaviors that we would say should put you in jail never mind make you a pariah. The problem is that when you start following politics like it's a form of entertainment, you start the sort of tribal mind kind of takes over," he says.
