University of pennsylvania neurologist douglas smith: A functional disorder is a genuine disorder just as much as a brain injury. The only people who are saying that this is primarily a psychological issue are people who have never examined the patients. We can rely on imaging to an extent, but that requires interpretation and we're left with a pretty giant unknown here.
