In August 2020, the regime scheduled the presidential election in Belarus. Sensing trouble before the election, Lukashenko preemptively arrested his political opponents. But he did allow Sviatlana to get new skia, the wife of one of his arrested opponents, to run. She became very popular together with two other allies, two women. So they became these icons of the protest movement later on.
