The Story of Hokulea
The polynesian voyaging society formed to challenge this theory. They built a 62 foot long, 19 foot wide, double holled canoe and sailed it from the hawaiian islands to tahiti. The ship's construction also made use of plywood, fibre, glass and resin. It was accompanied by a modern vessel, a hocolea itself, completely unpowered. And even more importantly, navigation was attempted without the use of any technology or devices,. at least on the way to tahati.
