The Challenges of Bioengineering Capstone Design

Roxanne Jones is the founder of Rice University's new bioengineering program. She says it was inspired by a challenge from pediatricians who were providing care for patients with HIV and AIDS. They needed to make sure they got the proper dose of liquid medicine using traditional syringes. The team came up with a solution that worked, but many people thought it was too complicated. But when students looked at what didn't work I think it helped them brainstorm about how we could come up with more effective solutions.
