The reason streaks have been so contentious is because they are designed purely to gamify the app. Which helps you form a habit with the app and gets you hooked in. Snap also has a feature that involves digital trophies, which is basically if you do certain things on the platform, like send 10 snaps using the hot dog filter or something. You'll get a trophy for it that lives in the app. It's literally just an icon. A lot of people are motivated by this idea that they can unlock things and discover things. And oftentimes that feels really crappy.
