The Early Church's Ability to Adopt Pagan Philosophy

The early church embraced many forms and elements of stoicism. They didn't just see a philosophy like stoicism and say, no, you know, it's bad. The great image there from the church fathers is that we can move into cultures other than our own and take what's best in them to our own purposes. So that's what happened with stoicism, is we took elements of it and we said, ok, we're not going to buy the whole programme, but find these moves or these er recommendations, agreeable to a christian framework.
