The Importance of Grace in Salvation

Pelagius objected to the idea of salvation by grace, placing a much stronger emphasis on free will. Augustine tells us that Pelagians do not maintain free will by purifying it, but demolish it by exaggerating it. The rigorous exercise of reason and moral choice were the most important keys to salvation for Pelagianism.
