Women Covering in the Street

In 1936, most Iranian women wore the veil when they left the house. They didn't sit in mixed company with men without the veil. And so many women simply stopped leaving the house. So that was the sort of first kind of enactment of state policy through what women wear. That sort of went its way when, I think essentially, the British forced Reza Shah to abdicate in 1984.
