I've studied and been a member of the Theosophical Society for God so long I can't remember. Twenty-five years or more I've studied many of their books. Having a concept of what a water spirit or a tree spirit looks like helps you relax your mind to allow yourself to begin to perceive things. Without some sort of a sense of what you might be looking for, it's like you said a caveman might have found a computer and not even know what the hell it was. Probably would have walked right on top of it and thought, well that's a shiny rock. So I found Theosophy very helpful.
