I think that America will mostly be ahead, but China will catch up because they can read the papers that American companies put out. And I do think the biggest factor is going to be genetic editing. It reminded me of this article, the curious case of China's feminist egenesis. But no, I agree that this is like one of their enduring advantages this willingness to be politically incorrect and not weird in the Western educated industrial sensethat people in the West are.
