Design Management Practices Have Lapped Us
The conventional wisdom among designers would have been thato should not attempt to manage design the way that you manage engineering. But they got out in front of us, because engineering orgs tend to be bigger. The value of engineering was more evident to internal leaders, and so they built out engineering orgs sooner. People often forget that much of what we think of as agile is simply a way for engineers to work without interruption. Designers haven't yet taken those reins all.
