Michael Jordan's role as the Messiah was unique that Moses or John the Baptist or whoever else didn't have. There is just something about human psychology that mixes hierarchy and divinity in some sort of way together. As a Chicago kid who grew up in the 90s I remember the hyper veneration will just say that Michael Jordan used to get in back at the height of his career.
