The Jomon Period in Japan
There were at least three distinct, eco-cultural regions within Japan alone during this period. The Jomon people had persistent in Japan for a very long time and who have direct descendants today. Recent ancient DNA studies suggest that they were deeply diverged from other groups living in East Asia. They may have entered the Japanese archipelago from the north but some genetic signatures link them to a coastal migration route from the south.
