The Importance of Personal History in Art
The first character we meet in the book is a white poetry MFA student who's on the combative side. Through this character, it feels like there's a commentary that exploration of personal history should not be the aim of art. "I do think that there is a way of reading and engaging with art that privileges, quote unquote, rawness," she says.
