The Importance of Bobby Poitier in the American Dream
I think it's one of his most underseen works. I mean, Poitier in a tuxedo, talking Japanese... It's exquisite to see him in the film. The role encapsulates who he was in real life. He is very much the absolute embodiment of the American dream. Being born of Jamaican parents marks them as outlears in their milieu. But also gives them a slightly differing sense of self-possession.
