The Battle for Yosemite Valley
White settlers knew the aaniche tribe by a different name, the yosemites. The mariposa battalion did not find the braves they were looking for on that first trip. They burned the awanici villages and destroyed the provisions the tribe had left behind. Two months later, another company from the mariposa Battalion returned to finish the work.
