What Are the Stars Made Of?
The field of spectroscopy was born in the early 20th century. It allowed scientists to study light coming from a star or sun and into a spectrum. They could then see what spectral lines on it were, which helped them learn more about its composition. For example, they learned that our sun is 92% hydrogen; most stars are 74%.
