The San Jocinto Mountain Range
15% of all fatalities along the pacific crest trail occur in the san jocinto mountain range. It's a very steep mountain with a rise and elevation from the desert floor up to over ten thousand feet. In the summer, even when it's extremely hot down around the base of this mountain, it will probably be windy and snowing at the top. John was not about to evacuate because of some storm. He was just going to continue up this mountain, go over fuller's ridge and carry on along thepacific crest trail.
