The Effects of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing on Memory
There are treatments like EMDR, eye movement desensitization reprocessing. It uses the brain's own mechanism to release the memory out of the limbic system and deliver it into the memory glands. That treatment in particular is highly effective for almost immediately lowering the level of the PTSD. However, if there are other events that are tied to that event or your brain has correlated other events with that event, what happens is you have to go back and reprocess those things too. But that's just a little bit about EMDR; we'll talk about that later more.
