The Crimean War and the Second War of Italian Independence

The second war of italian independence began in april 18 59 after piedmont successfully provoked the austrians into declaring war. Cavour advised king victor emmanuel to join the crimean war with the long term goal of securing support from the british and french for the inevitable war against austria.
