The Deuteronomy Mystic History

I think we don't actually know why the writers of the Deuteronomy mystic history, like wanted to retell the story in this way. Like maybe they knew their ancestors had blown it and they didn't want to like wear that particular mantle. I think this is the attempt of a people group to make sense of the ways things had not turned out like they were told it was going to turn out. And there's a little bit of that theme wise in the book of Joshua. Why are we here? Why does this belong to us? Why is this an injustice that we are in exile?
