The beast that we're talking about is not the devil, which some people say. So it's most likely a different entity. Throughout the New Testament, and it's not used very frequently, it's used as an adjective, not as a proper noun. The way you would say this person is grabby, or this person is kind of annoying. And so it's out there's a big furry guy with claws behind you. Feels a little clunky.
