How to Be a Successful Author
The big publishing houses, the traditional ones are probably going to be the most risk averse. If you've not published before, they're less likely to be interested in publishing you. Be prepared to do extensive market research and maybe go as far as doing projections on what your book's potential sales would be. In traditional publishing, you'll often try to find an agent. But there are only so many agents and they, like the publishers, can be risk averse too.
