The Unexpected Transfer
The prototypical experiment in psychology is called the unexpected transfer. It works like this: There are three caps and one of them has a ball underneath it. A participant chooses which cap to put the ball under and then walks out of the room. Then the experimenter walks into the room, moves the ball to a different cup. And we ask an observer to tell us when the participant comes back into the room which cap with a participant raised to find the ball. So what we've been seeing with children grownups and even with monkeys is that depending on the developmental stage, a different answer will arise.
