There is this weird assumption of sort of assuming that because you allegedly have a majority on your side in the moment, that you will have the majority onyour side forever more. And so therefore, mucking about and wasting time with checks and balances isn't an effective way to make democracy work. Calvin Coolidge gave arguably the third greatest statement on the Declaration of Independence after Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King. He actually lays out an argument more completely than either Lincoln or MLK.
