I've always thought the reason why the Jews had the nameless faceless God was going to one of your earlier points. And how do you get away from cruel and evil people? Right. In in Torah, what they teach is the way they have to smash the idols that Pharaoh believes in because they believe in them too. I can speak personally that it has lent greater tonic to my life than any other one single step, any other onesingle step.
