Are Black People More Likely to Receive a Death Penalty?
According to the wall street journal, prison sentences for black men were nearly 20 % longer than those for a similar is for white men. A studies that examine death penalty cases have generally found that in the vast majority of cases, if the murder victim is white, the defendant is more likely to receive a death sentence no matter who they are. In a few jurisdictions, mainly the federal system, a minority defendants, particularly black people, are more likely to be sentenced to die.
