I sometimes wonder, John, whether this isn't too optimistic. It is easy to see it as maybe Boris Johnson comes in. He breaks the ministerial code and that somehow if he has replaced, things get better. But the rise of populism is a global phenomenon. And I wonder whether part of it actually isn't to do with what started happening to politics in Britain in the 1990s and the US in the 1980s. The development of a more aggressive, hysterical 24 seven media campaigns actually created some of the permanent conditions out of which populism has come.
