The Catechism of the Catholic Church

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says Christians owe it to themselves to develop the desire to meditate regularly, lest they come to resemble the first three kinds of soil in the parable of the solar. If you fail to meditate, then you will become like the 3 kinds of soil that does not bear fruit. That's the key. We need to hear, the Lord is speaking to us in sacred scripture if we have ears to hear. It means praying from the word of God.
