The 2-1-2-4 Check Is a Very Effective Check Breakout in Hockey
The 2-1-2-4 check is essentially the most aggressive variant of an offensive zone for check that you can have. Most teams leave their second defense in that front by default so it's not a bad trade off. When I first started consulting for the Connecticut whale of the PHF in women's pro hockey they were getting absolutely slaughtered because it was way too easy for the other teams to just kind of throw the puck off the wall or off the glass and all of a sudden they've given up on an all-man rush. So you got to be very selective on where you use that.
