The Origins of Doping
The word "doping" comes from colonial observations of religious practices, says CNN's John Sutter. The phrase was used to refer to a beverage consumed in religious ceremonies by the Dutch during their colonialism. This is an idea that has been taken up by athletes who want to be able to put whatever they want into their bodies and sell it as enhancement through science. But at the same time, these large sporting organizations have agreed upon rules on how this can work.
