Smaller rockets will never be able to compete on price, says Mel Thorpe. This first launch is very late at night and that's for a reason - one of the main payload customers needs to get into orbit. We have a level of flexibility in orbits and trajectories because it's a mobile launch platform as well. It also gives us flexibility with weather. A lot of the times we can get above the weather with the 747. And so it is that red carpet service to space.
