In 19 o four, the army launched a series of fensives into northeastern china. The goal was to crush the russian armies in china before reinforcements could arrive from european russia. With the benefit of hindsight, we know that, in a very real sense, japan didn't actually win the ruso japanese war. Altogether, its internal weaknesses were what undid russia.
